Fair Trade

We enjoy trading with our friends around the world and believe in Fair Trade, which we are able to pursue through our partnership with our friends in Africa.

Fair Trade is a trading ideal, based on dialogue, transparency and respect, which seeks greater equality between Western and Southern (Third World) producers in international trade.

Fair Trade Shops mainly sell products from Southern producers and promote fair trade by raising the profile of fair trade retailing, by supplying information and campaigning for a change in the unfair rules for international trade.

Fair Trade Shops are involved in making world trade fairer, by helping remove the disadvantages suffered by Southern producers.

Our Fair Trade goals are:

To improve the livelihoods and well being of our partners by improving market access,  paying a better price and providing continuity in our trading relationship.
To promote development opportunities for our partners, especially for women and indigenous people and to protect children from exploitation in the production process.

To raise awareness among consumers of the negative effects on producers of international trade so that they exercise their purchasing power positively.
To set an example of partnership in trade through dialogue, transparency and respect.
To campaign for changes in the rules and practice of conventional international trade.

To protect human rights by promoting social justice, sound environmental practices and economic security.

We buy our African goods directly from the craftspeople who make the items, pay the price that they request and help to develop new product lines & outlets.
Our Eastern items
are made & bought from by local people.
